From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi, here's my talk page. Feel free to put anything you want here. If it's here, then you can probably assume that I've seen it (I will probably not archive my talk page for a while). It's my policy not to delete any messages here, but please don't vandalize this page. However, I will revert obvious vandalism that obstructs other people's view of my page. Thanks in advance for leaving a message! The reason for this policy is that I believe comments on this page- even if it's an attack against me- offer insight into what other user's think of me.

This page has never been archived. For your reading pleasure, I don't plan to archive it. Scratch that, this page is getting huge. I will blank every 100 comments, with a link to each archival copy (I want to preserve the diffs that I've often use as 'evidence').

I reserve the right to make slight modifications to people's comments, providing that it doesn't change the meaning. I promise not to change the body of people's text (I think that's just unethical), but I may sign it for them if they forgot (I'll put it in [brakets], and make a note of it somewhere). I also might move around stuff if people put it in the wrong section, and I might add titles to people's comments if they didn't do it themselves. Whatever I decide to change, it will be obvious that I changed it, and the user didn't put it there themselves. Signing under somebody else's name will not be tolerated. This is the only thing that I will delete on this page (besides stuff I mention below).

Please do not revert or modify any comments on this page- regardless of whether they are personal attacks, vandalism, etc. I will deal with vandalism on THIS page on a case-by-case basis. On the other hand, reverting vandalism on my userpage would be much appreciated, and I have no problems with that. My personal policy is not to delete anything unless it seriously impedes with how other people view this page (i.e. if you put a big black box over everybody's comments, I'll revert it). I am against deleting comments just because it makes me feel unspecial. I believe that messages on this page- inflammatory or not- give people potentially valuable insight on the type of contributor I am on Wikipedia.

This page was reverted once. I believe reverting it was completely reasonable, and I didn't see any reasonable way of preserving the message.[1]

To everybody who posts here: Please sign your name with four tildes (like this: ~~~~). It makes it a lot easier for everybody (especially myself) to find out who said what. If you have something against time stamps, then I have no problem if you use three tildes, just make sure you post to the bottom of the page, so that everything is in chronological order.

Sorry about redirecting your page. I know it's frustrating to create a page only to find it's a duplicate of something that already exists... maybe you'd like to check over the page it now redirects to to see if there's any info that could be merged in... Evercat 02:24, 11 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Cleanup

[edit]

When you clean up a page that is on Cleanup, please remove it from the cleanup page. Otherwise, the cleanup page will become even more massive than it already is. Braaropolis | Talk 00:10, 2 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Oops- sorry. Just thought that the article may need a bit more work- but you're right that I should've removed it. I'll remember that for next time. -Frazzydee 01:44, 2 Jun 2004 (UTC)

FOX affiliates

[edit]

There was no link for anything else, so I started List of Fox affiliates a while ago. Can you merge these? Mike H 17:54, Jun 25, 2004 (UTC)

done :) -Frazzydee 20:37, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Cleanup

[edit]

Been deleting from the Cleanup page, generally. When I don't, it's because I believe that my cleaning isn't definitive and that others might still need to take a whack. CU has been getting truly massive lately, sure enough, though. Either people are being more dilligent in sending articles there, or worse writing is going on. As WP gets more popular, I think the latter is going to be the case. Geogre 01:48, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

The above message was a response to the following: "Hi Geogre. Thanks a lot for helping to fix articles on the cleanup page! However, it would be really great if you could delete the entries on the cleanup page- just to help keep it as small as possible. Just a friendly reminder, so please don't take it as an insult or anything :) -Frazzydee 23:10, 27 Jun 2004 (UTC)"

Speedy deletions

Thanks for spotting them. One has been a repeating vandal and had others that needed to be cleared. - Tεxτurε 19:45, 30 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Lol, the page looks great! Kudos.

Sorry about editing it so many times. This is my first time, and I was fixing a couple of cosmetic mistakes I made when creating the page. I didn't notice the "This is a minor edit" box until after I was done. --Nick Warino 02:42, 6 Jul 2004 (UTC)

The above message was a response to the following: "For the future, please don't edit the page when the inuse message is there. I don't have time right now to merge my changes into yours, but if you want to do it, drop me a line ASAP on User_talk:Frazzydee, and I'll put my version into the article's talk page -Frazzydee 02:37, 6 Jul 2004 (UTC)"

Update: Thanks Frazzydee, I've added something similar to the other talk page. 20:40, 8 Jul 2004 (UTC)

added genus

[edit]

Hi, I'm new to WP. I've been adding in external links to many herbal genus with 100s more. Mostly links into eclectic herbals and some good herbal sources on the internet. My format is consistent for all the 500+ genus that I have. I just noticed that you put "cleanup" on the Alstonia genus I just added. Does this mean you wish to change the formatting for all my intended changes? Should I have put "substub" on the newly created page? I'm just learning. Mikcohen 04:43, 15 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Thanks. I saw it and thought I'd reverted it, but I guess I didn't. Isomorphic 15:40, 15 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit]

Please note that the article posted on USS Sims (DD-409) was taken from [2] which is the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, and in the public domain. My bust for not putting the standard DAFNS which would have explained this. User:Jinian 15 December 2024

Ann Coulter

[edit]

I didn't remove anything - I wrote a section on her life, in the "personal background" section, and moved that chunk on her studies down there, where it fitted better. It doesn't belong in the intrdouction - it's her background. I also added some other stuff. Please revert back to my last version

No worries, and thanks for reverting the revert - and well done for keeping an eye out for vandalism.

Thanks

Vandalism?

[edit]

I received a note from you warning me that someone had noticed some vandalism coming from my IP address.

I'm really confused about this, as I know I would never attempt to vandalize such a wonderful community project as Wikipedia.

I myself am an Anarcho-Communist, and consider these kinds of communal projects to be incredible displays of building commmunity-oriented living.

Please help, because I have no idea what's going on.

Sorry

[edit]

It seems it didn't put my username in, Che y Marijuana.

Hi there. I've also got a message that I'm vandalizing Wikipedia. I would have no idea what this entails, but since the message I have created an account. Could it be that someone else is using my IP address? Thanks, Peter

Wait...

[edit]

I use wikipedia almost on a daily basis, copying a few sentences to provide a definition for debate on a forum I go to. I always state that the quote is from Wikipedia and we all consider it an authority on issues of political and economic definitions. Could that be what is causing the problem?

If you would like an example of how I use it: What's a liberal?

Thanks

[edit]

I can't seem to find the message that was sent to me, and I only created the account after the message was sent.

It was sent to my ip, and it was a warning for vandalism that included some talk about the ISP and how fast you guys catch vandals :P

Yeah, I don't know anymore than that, it didn't specify the pages in question or anything like that. I'm assuming you can get my IP address from this message to check it out further, if not I could e-mail you or ask you to e-mail me about it.

I suppose it could be someone else from this IP address, but it's highly unlikely, cause the two others who use this computer are a computer illiterate and an anti-intellectual. Hehe.

Anyways, no problem if it was just a mistake, I understand as I am an Admin at Che-Lives.com. Mistakes happen. I fit isn't however, I'm worried about what kind of crap IE is pulling when I'm not looking, hehe.

I read your page

[edit]

I read your page Frazzydee (you said no one would!!) Thanks for formatting my post on the Pro4 - it was only my second post on wikipedia.

While I ma here I have a question - I have tried to look it up but all the legal stuff confuses me. I want to put a picture of the Pro4 in the article. I don't suppsoe I can downlaod the picture from the HPI website and then upload it for the article as this will go against the copyright. I suppose I could take a picture of my Pro4 but that wouldn't look as good.

I don't suppose I'll get an e-mail when you reply to this (if you do) so I suppsoe I'll have to keep checking back.

Thank you very much for reporting your correct number of edits. It takes a very honest person, with much integrity, to report errors instead of just hiding them. I've considered and I will leave my support vote, anyway, as this doesn't really change much of anything, in my opinion. You're still a very good contributor and I feel you're quite deserving. Mike H 23:15, Aug 29, 2004 (UTC)

That was a very honest thing to do. But of course I still support you - even more so, because I now know you are trustworthy. Neutrality (talk) 23:24, 29 Aug 2004 (UTC)

No problem. I wouldn't change my vote because the overall quality of your edits is good (otherwise I wouldn't have voted for you in the first place ;)). Good luck! CryptoDerk 23:39, Aug 29, 2004 (UTC)

I wouldn't change my vote either. What I vote on is quality of edits, not quantity. Thanks for your note and good luck with being an admin! ffirehorse 23:40, 29 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Brasil Pic License

[edit]

The pic is NOT copyrighted - the agency that took it is a small company that takes pictures at parties, but it does not copyright its pics. Nevertheless, it´s me in the pic - I could brag image rights anyway.

Anyway, to check for doubts, go to the agency´s website (in Portuguese). It´s http://www.olhaopassarinho.com.br . The company´s name is "Olha O Passarinho".

Under the Berne Convention, all works are copyrighted automatically, and I see a copyright tag at the bottom of their page. Not sure what pic is in question, but it's probably a copyright violation if it came from that site. -- Cyrius| 03:55, 31 Aug 2004 (UTC)

redstar2000

[edit]

You're really the only person I know around here, so I'm coming to you with this. Recently, someone on the forum I admin at created a thread about an entry being made about one of our members. redstar2000. We were all surprised, but I took the liberty of expanding the paragraph entry into a full page after we found out it was on votes for deletion. Guy's in his 60's I believe. Anyways, what happens now that I've edited it after most of the votes? Could you read the article and tell me if it's shaping up in an appropriate way?

Also, it seems most of the people voting were under the false assumption he created it himself.

Could you read the page and comment? Thanks.--Che y Marijuana 09:15, Sep 3, 2004 (UTC)

 • Unfortuantely, it's one of those cases where including him by name is not a viable option. I'm pretty sure he would be against that as it brings up issues of personality worship and the like. As for the rest of your comments, thank you for your help, I will try to expand the section on his history and past activities with SDS. Would you consider voting once I get that info up? It seems he passes the professor test and the "periodicals with a ciculation of 5000 or more". He has an audience of at least 7500, though granted it is an internet audience. I think what this comes down to is an issue of the medium of the internet not being taken seriously. It is, in my opinion, an important medium and contributions made through it should be recognized as well. There's plenty of real life trivia out there that deserves a spot in wikipedia, and if some people feel that someone who has contributed to their movement for a long time and continues to do so deserves one too, I don't see why not.--Che y Marijuana 21:31, Sep 3, 2004 (UTC)

[edit]

Congratulations! After getting 100% support on RfA, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the administrators' how-to guide helpful. Good luck. Angela. 14:17, Sep 5, 2004 (UTC)

I saw this page and really didn't think it was proper at all. According to the talk page, it's been around for a while with little change. The discussion seems to reach a general consensus that it isn't NPOV at all, though nothing is done about it. My personal opinion is it has no place on wikipedia to begin with. The article is POV fromt he ground up and no reworking it will change that.

I was wondering where I should go with such a concern, as I am new here. Could you check it out and tell me what your opinion is of what I should do?--Che y Marijuana 09:57, Sep 8, 2004 (UTC)

Jumping the gun

[edit]

Hi, I've noticed a few times today you've edited image page captions to change around their copywrite status (i.e. adding an {unknown} to one and moving the {PD-USGov} on mine. Which is actually a very good thing, lord knows there are plenty of poorly formatted image pages. However you've done this within a minute of the image being uploaded, which means that if the user who uploaded it actually was editing the image page (as the Upload Image page instructs them to) after uploading it, then they will get an annoying edit conflict when they try and save it. It would be more helpful if you would wait at least 5 min. or so before editing newly uploaded images, it's rather annoying to finish writing out a long caption only to find that someone assumed you weren't going to even write anything. Not the end of the world, but just a tip.. --Fastfission 07:04, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)

It's not a big deal, but I had just noticed that you did something like it twice and I thought I would leave a little note. Of course the sentiment is *completely* appreciated, clarifying image source status is an extremely important job in my opinion for a copyleft publication. --Fastfission 23:47, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)

ATTENTION PLEASE CHANGE PAGE!

[edit]

On the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/With_the_Lights_Out there is a tracklisting for the upcoming NIRVANA box set. I had gone to that page earlier this day and was screwing around and edited the page. I did not know what I was doing!

I repeat, this tracklisting is FAKE. Could someone please, please some editor of the page take that tracklisting off before it gets anymore exposure. People will believe it to be true and it coud cause some big problems.

I did not mean to cause any harm. Like I said I was screwing around editing the page, not "vanadalising" as some have said, and I put on there a dream tracklisting. This is FAKE. I soon after deleted what I had typed, and then somehow someone reverted the page back to that.

The page is now protected, so could you please take the tracklisting off. I don't want people to get the wrong idea. I am very sorry about all of this, as I said, i was not aware of what I was doing.

This regards the article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/With_the_Lights_Out. I came across that article from a link from a Nirvana message baord. I at the time had never been to Wikipedia and did not know what this site was. My dillema is this: This might sound really strange and believe me I've learned my lesson: The tracklisting for the upcoming Nirvana boxset is under lock and key. It has not been released yet at all. Not even one song is known on the listing. I had edited the page just screwing around with test data, because I had never used this site before. I had made a FAKE list of songs to test editing the page.

I created the articles in question. They had incorrect nomenclature of the hull numbers according to the Royal Australian Navy website, so I moved the articles and am requesting a delete for the redirects that were created as a result. -Joseph (Talk) 04:14, 2004 Oct 26 (UTC)

Re: Question about Preliminary Deletion

[edit]

Thanks for your query. In the case you mentioned, then the article would be deleted, because if there's more than 90% delete votes, then there's a clear consensus for delete — note that this is even higher than the standard for consensus we use to elect admins, which is 80%. If there's a lack of a clear-cut consensus, then the article goes to VFD. Hope this cleared the matter up. (btw, I will be reposting your message and my reply on Wikipedia talk:Preliminary Deletion). I assembled this information about a year ago, and had forgotten that I had made use of the web pages you list. Thanks for calling my attention to this. However, I think this opera has such impact that it deserves some kind of an entry. Good wishes....Roy Lehrle

Fact and reference check

[edit]

I'll post here because its important, I really do not know the criteria of where to post when replying to the message :).

I think you are correct in your statement that it is time to move forward, and that once the developers see that it is necessary they will implement it. I think before having a vote on which article to work on, we should have a vote on the method/format we will use to fact check articles.

I myself like a foot note system in which the foot notes links to the statement, with multiple reference underneath. This allows for 1 foot note per statment, instead of multiple foot notes12345, each linking to a reference.

I will help set up the different contenders and we can have a vote on which method/format we will use :o). --ShaunMacPherson 23:06, 31 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Hello, I have put up the proposal page for the fact project. I am not sure if people are able to see it, it would be good to try and have it as a table top right. I tried (look at the history :]) to make into a table top right but couldn't.
Please tell me if there are any changes we should make in our proposal voting coming up. --ShaunMacPherson 10:00, 3 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Quick edit...

[edit]

The "Recent Changes" link on your page was broken, there was no space in it and it confused me for about five minutes. Sorry to be nitpicky, but I had an urge to edit it...

WOW!

[edit]

It seems your really happy to throw out "vandalism" messages. I got the same, as for your message you left to me it seemed very immature and disrespectful. ALSO, did you ever think that not EVERYONE has a static ip. Your accusations are obsurd, I get the same ip issued from my network about once every ten to fifteen times on a network where we all use Wikipedia as a common reference. As for vandalism, this is the first time I visit your user page and definately the last. [-64.222.244.190]

Boilerplate protection

[edit]

I removed it. You're continuing what I believe is a bad precedent set by Eloquence. Your pages are short and there is no reason why you can't watchlist them and scan through them before using them, as other users do.

Farc

[edit]

Farc is a good name :). Good work on the votes and getting people interested, do what ever you need to do to help get fact and referencing happening on Wikipedia. I also like article of the week or 1/2 month :). Association of Inclusionist Wikipedians is a good site with lots of votes and action that we can use as an example for our project.

I am not sure what proposal 3 is, is it like #2 but a footnote at the end of each sentence? That maybe a good idea, and is simpler. Someone wants a proposal 4, something about comments only or something (they voted). I think hiding footnotes should be something that will be put in future versions, but we dont have to worry about that now. --ShaunMacPherson 18:45, 7 Nov 2004 (UTC)

"Yup, that's what proposal 3 is. It has its up-sides and down-sides. On the positive side, it's much simpler, but on the negative side, it may be a bit confusing. How about a proposal 4 where there's one footnote per fact, but you're allowed multiple references per footnote? This may be slightly contraversial, but maybe the voting section should be wiped, and all users who voted should be sent messages about this...my reasoning is that new proposals have been submitted, users voted before it officially began, and one user (Fred Bauder) seems to have voted twice :S. -Frazzydee|✍ 18:59, 7 Nov 2004 (UTC)"
I dunno, I think all of the versions are pretty much the same. I think the problem is people are losing interest since we waited too long, I say we just get the vote for #2 to move a head. We'll just do 'important' (i.e. almost everyone knows spiders have 8 legs, so that isnt as important as other facts to be checked :) ) facts at first until smart footnotes are programed in. If worse comes to worse we'll just do big footnotes with lots of text, and quote the right areas, not necessarily 1 per fact. Lets get #2 going unless someone indicates a large flaw with it, then when it win's we'll remind everyone that #2 is temporary until smart footnotes occur or something better comes along --ShaunMacPherson 04:01, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)
"I definately agree that we need to move ahead. I am just as tired as you must be with this project remaining at a stand-still. However, I still think that we should give people some time to vote. Maybe make the deadline for voting soon- how does the 14th (1 week) sound to you? -Frazzydee|✍ 04:07, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)"
I didn't know you were up now ;). One week sounds good, I've also contacted all the members so they have little excuse not to know what is going on if they choose not to vote. Perhaps we should have a votes/nominations page for article of the week/(1/2)week/month? So much is going on with our page we might need to make subpages. Also a list of pages that need footnote formatting, and a list of pages that need reference check. Also I guess a list of online references people can use to start reference checking... hmmm lots to do, do we have a to do list there we should put this up hehe. --ShaunMacPherson 04:12, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Farc 2

[edit]

"BTW, I had an admittedly stupid idea of not using proper referencing style, and simply linking directly to the article. But this gave me an epiphany...The only reason people hate referencing is because it's so hard to do. Heck, even I found myself referencing incorrectly a few minutes ago, and I left it. It's not because I'm irresponsible, it's because I'm lazy. I believe that it would be incredibly beneficial for us to have a web-based thingy (script? applet?) where all you need to do is type in the URL, name of resource (i.e. "New York Times"), and (optinonally) date modified, and it would automagically fill in the rest, and put everything together. It doesn't sound like it would be too difficult for somebody with experience doing this kind of stuff. Maybe we should contact James Day or Tim Starling and start begging? I'm not sure what you think of this, but don't feel that the footnotes feature request is getting that much support- and I agree with some of their arguments- people will be tempted to put all sorts of stuff there (tables, extra information, etc.), and it'll get messy. So what do you say about this- it'll mainly be used by members of the project, but of course, anybody can use it. -Frazzydee|✍ 04:13, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)"

If you know James Day or Tim Starling that is good if you could ask them. I've talked with Tim Starling, Timwi, and Eloquence so they know about this project and they are, seemingly, not that interested in helping.
A script that would autoformat seems like a good idea, esp. if its a footnote at the end of each sentence. Automatic footnotes are suppose to do this, when you <<bracket the text>> it will automatically quote it at the bottom for easy footnotes, and autonumber it as well. They've yet to put it in, I think because they do not know what we are talking about. Maybe we need to do a paper on exactly what we mean, in PDF? We can work on the paper together here on Wikipedia in a subsection of our project.--ShaunMacPherson 04:26, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I forgot, do you know what scripts they use to do things to the pages, like bot scripts? If you could tell me, perhaps we can learn how to make a script ourselves. I am good at MIRC scripting which seems similiar, and I am trying to learn Java, I know Visual Basic.--ShaunMacPherson 04:28, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Also this is off topic for this section, but I think I am going to format our page around so it looks better. A person already formatted it, but its getting so big now that we'll need some changes, and I know a good project to use as a template.--ShaunMacPherson 04:26, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Internet Haganah

[edit]

Good work on adding/expanding the article. I'm still not convinced of the original contributor's good faith, though: a) First edit as a contributor was to start an article with a link to a commercial website as sole content (and under a misleading article title, to boot). b) Original contributor deleted the speedy deletion tag that I put there. Is the company notable, though? It doesn't get that many hits, and a lot of them seems to be from internet directories and suchlike? Elf-friend 16:11, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I'm flattered that you might think I could be an admin, but I don't think I'll accept at the moment. Maybe in a couple of months. Ugh. Sorry about the accusation. That's some nice editing (but I looked at it, and you even made a typo one time, so you weren't running a bot!

The biggest problem with using subst is it makes it harder to find VFD tags which were accidently left on an article. More than half of the changes you made were to articles not even listed on VFD. It also violates Wikipedia:Avoid self-references. I tend to think that longstanding policy overrides what one person decided to write in the VFD instructions. anthony 警告 04:20, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)

er. There's been a mistake.

[edit]

I was viewing Wikipedia and had just gotten to a page on Timothy McVeigh when a long orange bar appeared that I said I had a message. I clicked on its link and arrived at a page that warned me not to vandalize Wikipedia or else get blocked from it. I wasn't vandalizing! I've never even edited a page before! This is my first time. I'd really like to continue using Wikipedia. Where would I get all the random, interesting, useful information that keeps me amused?

I don't know how to let you know which IP address - mine - is innocent. I'm assuming there's some way to tell from my posting now? The page that said I'd been vandalizing included "User TAlk: 152.163.100.69" and I've noticed some people here have numbers like that posted. Does it have anything to do with identification?

 • Yep, I tried doing that, but there seemed to be a bug in the software. The new image was there, but with the old image's height and width. It didn't look OK. Speedy deletion is allowed for "an image which is a redundant (all bits the same or scaled-down) copy of something else". GeorgeStepanek 02:06, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)
